Marketing
I have almost a decade of experience working with and managing marketing and social media teams for companies that I really admire. Currently I'm freelancing and consulting with wonderful companies like the Oliver Sacks Foundation, Culinary Backstreets, and Show the Good. Below are some examples of the work I've done, both full time and freelance.
Atlas Obscura
Over the course of the two and a half years I was at Atlas Obscura, I more than tripled their Facebook likes and Twitter followers. I brought the Instagram from 40,000 followers and an engagement rate of 2.09% to 250,000 followers with an engagement rate of 5.07%.
I created our strategy for Instagram stories, Reddit, Facebook video, and other features and platforms. I led the audience development team to earn two Webbys and an Ellie nomination for our social media presence. Here’s a case study of an audience engagement project I led while I was there.
Chronicles of Now
The Chronicles of Now is a literary platform that uses fiction to offer a different lens on current events.
They commission major authors to write short stories inspired by the news, and then pair the stories with sidebars explaining the facts, background, and context for each news story, along with a curated list of essential long-form journalism, podcasts, and videos on the subject for those who want to dig deeper. I took the visual language of the Chronicles of Now website and translated that to social media, creating a package of designed templates and quote cards for them to use to promote their stories.
Penguin Random House
At Penguin Random House I worked on the marketing campaigns of #1 New York Times Bestsellers like The Girl on the Train and A Gentleman in Moscow, and worked with award-winning authors like Elizabeth Gilbert, Junot Díaz, Marlon James, and Anne Lamott.
During my time there I did a deep dive into the social platforms of Viking and Riverhead, looking at years’ worth of analytics and competitive analysis. I used the information to accelerate growth across social platforms, in some cases raising follower count by almost 300% over the course of a few months.
I also worked on initiatives such as Riverhead Table, a recurring content series that involved going to author’s homes and preparing a meal themed around their book, and produced and animated a sizzle reel to highlight the diversity of their authors, which the imprint still uses in pitch meetings.
